Dave already had a monkii cage fitted to his mountain bike and wanted to have one fitted to his lovely new Tern. Easy. But he didn’t want it on the main frame tube where Tern want you to put it. He wanted it where he could easily reach it when he was cycling. Plus it musn’t interfere with the folding of the Tern. monkii clip to the rescue and a monkii cage.
Fitting a monkii clip to a Tern
You need to change the short allen bolt to the long allen bolt that comes in the fitting kit. Plus use the rubber ‘packer’, also in the fitting kit. The packer isn’t needed for ‘packing’. It’s used to protect and help the monkii clip grip the Tern handlebar stem. Then position the monkii clip where you want it and then very loosely tighten the allen bolt. Then check the fold. All good here. So then just tighten the allen bolt up to 3nm. 3nm what’s that? Well, it’s not that much, just hand tight. But the monkii clip won’t move.
Fitting a monkii cage onto a monkii clip
Slide it on. It’s that easy. Dave has a Sigg bottle in the monkii cage here, but you can put any bottle in you like. Or even your Thermos or LifeVenture Thermal mug.
Don’t forget if you have a Brompton bicycle you can fit monkii clip and monkii bicycle bottle cage in exactly same way as Dave has to his Tern bicycle.
